"On Sunday, October 23, 2016, at the Academic Year Ceremonies, the Fundacja Absolwentów (Alumni Foundation) of the Marie-Curie Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin, Poland, announced the "dr Jamie Lynn Marshall Outstanding Graduate Prize", to two recipients for 1000 zlotys (about $390) each to continue their studies at UMCS. The award was named in honor of Jamie, an Honorary Member of Phi Delta Phi, lest we forget, who eight years ago created the first alumni foundation for a European university and remains on its Board as Founding Director. The Fundacja began with only about $300 in funds on hand and has since grown to having supplied many thousands of dollars in support of the University for various projects, including the sponsorship of the formal graduation ceremonies and obtaining a grant of 2.7million Euros for the enhancement of student programs in the Environmental Science Department. The photograph of the ceremonies at which she was invited to present personally the first award named for her includes Prof. dr hab. Stanisław Michałowski, Rector of the University, and Arkadiusz Wronowski.
Later that afternoon, we participated in the initiation of two new members of the Inn at UMCS, and I am enclosing their photos We followed that with a dinner that included not only our barrister members, but dr Anna Kalisz who is awaiting the completion of her doctorate at UMCS. Łukasz Panasiuk, one of our barrister members, gave a very inspiring speech to the new initiates at the conclusion of the dinner. Just as we were about to adjourn, Tomasz Czapla, one of our charter members who is now a senior partner in the firm of Smaga Jaroszyński [the largest firm in Lublin], said that he had announcement to make. His firm has determined that they want to offer opportunities for law students to clerk with them [not as messengers or filing clerks, but real work], and this offer was going to be exclusive to Phi Delta Phi members. There was a moment of stunned silence then a roar of applause."
