Please join us in congratulating Cheryl Sharp (University of Connecticut- Ellsworth Inn) , as she has been awarded the Woman of the Year from the Connecticut Commission on Equity and Opportunity. Cheryl serves as the Deputy Director of the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.
Prior to becoming the Deputy Director Sharp most recently served as a Human Rights Attorney III in CHRO’s Legal Division, where she represented the State of Connecticut in the prosecution of a wide range of employment, housing and public accommodation discrimination complaints. In addition to those responsibilities, Sharp oversaw the Commission's education and outreach program. She has previously served as the interim Deputy Director for Enforcement and interim Regional Manager. She began at CHRO as a law clerk and initiated the Kids Speak and Kids Court program which she manages to this day. "I am humbled by this appointment and look forward to continuing to work with Executive Director Tanya Hughes and Chairman Collins who have brought vision and energy to CHRO."
Sharp is a licensed attorney in Connecticut and New York. She holds undergraduate degrees in History and Theater from Wesleyan University, an MS in Human Resources from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law. Sharp has also attended the Women's Campaign School at Yale University.
