J. Will Pless International Graduate of the Year Award

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Candidate must be a member of the Society graduating between December 1 and September 30 of the given year
  • Candidates must be in good school, Inn, and society standing.

The Court has assigned a maximum of 100 points to the four sections dealing with scholastic data, law school activities, Phi Delta Phi activities and other achievements. The Court has also listed the subcategories that it will take into consideration within each category. The four categories are broken down as follows: 

 

 I. PHI DELTA PHI ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES (25)  II. LAW SCHOOL ACTIVITIES (25)
  • Offices
  • Performance
  • Attendance Record
  • Program Activities
  • Financial Standing
  • Other Contributions 
  • Law Review
  • Moot Court
  • Legal Aid Clinic
  • Student Bar Association
  • Class Offices Held
  • Legal Research or Work Outside of Regular Course Work
  • Recognition or Awards Received 
 III. OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS/ ACTIVITIES (25)  IV. SCHOLASTIC DATA (25)
  • Pre-Law Degrees
  • Social and Honor Organizations
  • Offices, honors, awards during pre-law college or equivalent
  • Other personal achievements such as:
    family obligations, community service,
    athletic achievements, and military service
  • Class Rank
  • Outside Employment while attending Law school
  • Academic Recognition or Awards
  • Other

GUIDELINES:

To be considered for a Phi Delta Phi Scholarship, any Active Member (defined by the Phi Delta Phi Constitution as a law student member) must submit the Scholarship Application Form, and all required accompanying materials between January 15 and March 1.

Please submit the application and accompanying materials using the application form found above.  Applicants may contact Headquarters by telephone or email to verify receipt and completeness of the application.  It shall be the sole responsibility of the applicant to ensure that Headquarters has received his or her application and all required materials as described herein.

SELECTION PROCESS:

The Court of Appeals will select the J. Will Pless International Graduate of the Year from the pool of applicants. The winner will be announced to ensure an opportunity for Inns and law school administrations to give adequate publicity to the award and its recipient.

The International Graduate of the Year will receive a $2,500 USD award, recognition, a specialty Graduate of the Year Certificate and a Lapel Pin.
